About Field to Families
Field to Families began as a family-run organization in the Salt Lake City, Utah, area. It has grown to include several trained assistants, though still mostly a family-operated business. We attempt to be up front and open about how things work. Please contact us with any questions.
Field to Families is constantly growing to reach new areas through a network of assistants. Pick-up orders are available every Saturday from 10 a.m. to Noon at each location. See the “Pick-up Locations” section below for the list of locations.
How Field to Families Works
We acquire fresh produce (typically harvested within the six days preceding) and supply it to you every Saturday during the “Pick-up Time” and at the “Pick-up Locations” (see below).
You simply pay a monthly fee for the monthly package you want. A monthly package consists of a certain number of pick-up orders per month. Each pick-up order consists of eight units of produce.
The fresh produce we acquire comes from local farmers and produce vendors at bulk rates.
When you become a member of Field to Families you join a online community of individuals interested in eating more healthily. The Field to Families website offers many ways to connect with other members. We also have Faceboo
k and Twitter communities.
Pick-up Order Contents
Our goal is to acquire a variety of fresh high-quality, seasonal produce in order to get the most appealing and cost-effective items possible. Our motto is: "Local when possible, regional when not." We purchase from American farmers growing produce in Utah, California, and Northern Mexico. Most of the produce we provide will be in unsealed, open-air containers. Some items may be distributed sealed. The goal is to get it as directly from the field to you as possible. As such, many of the items will have dirt on them and require washing (we like this).
We aim to acquire produce from farmers who grow organically (concerning fertilizers and pesticides). Typically, we do not claim the produce is “certified organic”, though sometimes it is.
Pick-up Time
Each site has a two-hour pick-up time frame: Saturday from 10 a.m. to Noon. Feel free to bring a container to use to pick up your produce: reusable grocery bags and boxes work great. Perishable items in regular pick-up orders that are paid for and not picked up by Noon are donated to a local fire station or food pantry.
Pick-up Locations
We are constantly expanding and adding locations depending on demand. All produce pick-up orders are expected to be picked up during the pick-up time frame at the pick-up locations.

Signing Up for a Monthly Package
After becoming a member, you can choose a particular monthly package of produce (see “Monthly Packages” section below).
Identity
When an order is picked up, each member will sign for the order. If you are picking up an order for someone else, be prepared to show picture ID and leave contact information.
Additional Produce
Typically, at the pick-up locations, during the two-hour pick-up time frame, there are additional items available for "cash-and-carry" purchase. These will vary in type and price, depending on availability.
Fees
The fee structure is simple: You pay $15 per pick-up order.
In value, a pick-up order has between $20-30 worth of retail-priced produce. Each pick-up order consists of eight units of produce.
A unit can change from week to week, i.e. one week three beets might be a unit, another week four beets might be a unit; one week four tomatoes might be a unit, and another week five tomatoes might be a unit. This varies depending on the season and availability of produce. The best effort is made to ensure accuracy, however weights and measures are not guaranteed accurate. A “pound”, “bunch”, or “container” may vary some.
Sometimes there will be last minute change to a unit on our end (due to seasonal availabilities); we do everything we can to find an equitable replacement unit.
When you sign up for a monthly package, you are given an “Expiration Date” or “Expiry Date” for a month later. You will automatically be charged a renewal fee on that date each month for the monthly package you have selected. You can easily cancel your renewal fee by simply choosing to be a "free" member before your Expiration Date. For information regarding if you make changes mid-month to your monthly package see the “Monthly Package Sign-up Deadlines” section below.

Pick-up Order Discussion Forum (http://fieldtofamilies.i360net.com/forum/forum_topics.php?ForumID=5472 )
The pick-up order discussion forum is where members can see what will be in the next pick-up order and it is a way for members to influence what items could be in the next pick-up order. Members can choose to not look at the forum and in this manner they can be “surprised” at what items are in the pick-up order.
Monthly Package Sign-up Deadlines (if you have become a member, you can see the following in a Calendar under the Events tab)
The monthly package sign-up deadline for a particular month is 2 p.m. on the Thursday before the second Saturday.
If you have signed up for a particular monthly package by the deadline, you can pick up that package’s missed pick-up orders (if any) from earlier in the month, plus the regular pick-up orders for that month on the very next Saturday; and then be on that package’s regular schedule for the following month. If you sign up after the deadline, you can expect to be put on the regular schedule for that package on the following month.
If you make a change to your monthly package, either upgrading or downgrading, we can return the difference (if any) between the two packages. Simply send us an email explaining the changes you have made and amount needed to be returned. We can do this through a charge back to the card you have on file.
If you want to ensure that you are included on the regular schedule for the first Saturday of a month, you need to sign up by 2 p.m. two Thursdays before.
Example 1:
The second Saturday is Feb. 13. You are a new member and select Package 2 as your first package on Wednesday, Feb. 10 (before the 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 deadline). You can come Feb. 13 and pick up your Saturday, Feb. 6 order that you missed the week before (and since Feb. 13 is a second Saturday, and Package 2 has no second Saturday pick-up, you would have no regular pick-up on that day). Then you would begin your regular pick-up orders on the third Saturday (Feb. 20).
Example 2:
The second Saturday is February 13. You are a new member and select Package 3 as your first package on Friday, Feb. 12 (after the 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 deadline). You can come on Saturday, Mar. 6 and begin your regular pick-up orders on every Saturday--remember, you are welcome to come any Saturday and see if there are items available for cash purchase (see “Additional Produce” section above).
Example 3:
The second Saturday is Feb. 13. You are a regular member who has the Package 1 as your package with a Feb. 1 Expiration Date (see the “Fees” section above). You decide to change your package to Package 3 on Friday, Feb. 12 (after the 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 deadline). Since you already picked up your order for February on Feb. 6, you will simply begin your new package on Mar. 6. You will have a new Mar. 12 Expiration Date (one month after the date you changed packages).
Example 4:
The second Saturday is Feb. 13. You are a regular member who has the Package 2 as your package with a Feb. 1 Expiration Date (see the “Fees” section above). You decide to change your package to Package 3 on Wednesday, Feb. 10 (before the 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 deadline). This qualifies you for Package 3 in February, meaning you can come the remaining Saturdays in February and pick up an order. Since you have already been charged the $30 fee for Package 2 on Feb. 1 and then the $60 fee for Package 3, you need to send us an email explaining that you changed packages and we need to return $30. You will have a new Mar. 10 Expiration Date (one month after the date you changed packages).
Example 5:
The second Saturday is Feb. 13. You are a regular member who has the Package 3 as your package with a Feb. 1 Expiration Date (see the “Fees” section above). You decide to change your package to Package 1 on Wednesday, Feb. 10 (before the 2 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 11 deadline). This means you went from an every Saturday pick-up order ($60) to only a pick-up order on the first Saturday ($15). Since you have already picked up the Feb. 6 order and will not be picking up any more orders in February, you need to send us an email explaining that you changed packages and we need to return $45. You will have a new Mar. 10 Expiration Date (one month after the date you changed packages).
Returns, Credits, Substitutions, and Delayed Pick-up Orders
There are no returns or credits. If you cannot use or do not need a particular product, feel free to do with it as you please.
We cannot accommodate substitutions or delayed pick-up orders. This is because we cannot plan properly if you decide you want two units of something by not taking one unit of something in the pick-up order. And, similarly, if you do not pick up an order on a particular week, you cannot plan on being able to pick it up on a week following. Your order that was not picked up has been donated to charity.
